Senior Capstone Project 2025
This capstone project has been such a great learning experience and has really helped me grow as a designer, setting me up for what’s next. From the beginning, I knew I had to pick a UI design topic that I could stick with for an entire semester without getting bored. After considering a few ideas, I landed on diving, something I’m really into and know well. I noticed there was a real need for better digital resources in the diving community, and I realized I could help fill that gap, not just as a designer, but also as an athlete who’s felt those issues firsthand. Once I had the topic locked in, I decided to create the interfaces for app and website that would allow for better access to information, tools for tracking meets, ways to connect and engage, and resources for training and progress tracking. Due to time, I could only focus on visual elements rather than the functionality of the buttons and activities.
Research and Sketches
The sketching, researching, and exploration process of this project proved to be the most important stage. This collection is just a fraction of the whole chaotic process. I included these so that you, the viewer, can potentially understand how and why I made certain design choices, and also see the evolution process of a sketch to a final draft.
App Interface
The app includes tools and activities to assist divers and coaches with practice. In the Home tab, users can track their progress, marking completed practices for a given session or week. The Watcher tab utilizes the camera to analyze dive entry angles, offering feedback and allowing users to review previous dives—an essential feature, particularly when no playback system is available at the pool. The Trainer tab provides built-in training sessions targeting specific body parts and muscle groups, tailored to the athlete’s preferences.
Website Interface
The website would feature a “social” side of diving, providing useful functionality for athletes, spectators, and coaches. The homepage would display the latest diving events and achievements, with the option to filter by recency, popularity, region, and division. The Diver Connect page would serve as a centralized resource for tracking teams and individual athletes, offering an easy way to follow performance data. Currently, there’s no one-stop platform for this information, so this page could potentially become the primary database for scores and meet results. Streaming in the diving community can be confusing and difficult to navigate. Streams are often hard to find without a direct link, and searches may lead to outdated events. The Stream page would address this by providing a place to view live streams of ongoing meets, as well as recently completed competitions and invitationals.
